Today, almost every household has a desktop computer. Different devices and accessories that are Bluetooth compatible can be connected, such as headphones. Compared to wired headsets, Bluetooth headphones have several advantages. To begin with, it works on all OS systems. Moreover, Bluetooth headsets can seamlessly pair with PCs as well as tablets and smartphones. Additionally, wireless devices have the presence of “Hands-free” technology. It permits, among other things, sound transmission to the headset speakers and voice transmission via microphones. Thus, individuals can make calls, comment on games, enjoy online gaming, and control video playback.
Connecting wireless headphones to a phone or tablet is an easy task. However, in the case of laptops and computers, problems tend to arise. However, solutions to these difficulties can be found very quickly. Every user solution is in the instruction manual that comes along with the Bluetooth headset. Not all users, however, read it which leads to the problems of incorrect pairing.
When connecting a wireless headset, the Bluetooth module needs to be paired. Most tablets and laptops have built-in Bluetooth adapters. This is much more complicated with personal computers. Only advanced PC models come with an adapter for a wireless connection. As I said previously, other users will have to buy it separately. The most important thing is learning which one is right for you.
Several types of adapters have been developed and are now available in the market.
First is the PCI module. But you have some knowledge about the hardware of the PC. This module is designed to be connected to the motherboard. Specialized points of sale are ready to offer many design solutions for the PCI module, equipped with different packages of functions. However, users who have already purchased such devices claim: the smaller the module, the fewer functions it supports.
External adapter. This device is connected via the USB port of the PC system unit. It has far fewer functions than PCI modules. And the data transfer rate is much lower. But external adapters have one important advantage – there is no need to disassemble the computer to connect it. It is enough to insert the adapter into the USB port on the front or back of the system unit. The shape and size of the portable device resemble a regular flash drive. Accordingly, they will not interfere with the operation.
Mac OS. Modern computer models developed by Apple have a built-in wireless adapter in their package. That is why users are very happy to buy computer peripherals equipped with a Bluetooth module since their connection does not cause any particular difficulties.
Below, we propose to consider in more detail the method of pairing Bluetooth headphones with Mac OS.
1. You need to open the “Bluetooth” menu and activate the wireless connection. To do this, click on the icon located in the upper right corner of the monitor. In the window that opens, select the “Bluetooth on” section, after which the inscription should darken.
2. Next, you need to activate the headphones. To do this, press the power button on the headset’s operating panel. After that, a list of devices that can be connected appears on the monitor. Among them will be the name of the headphones you are interested in. All that remains is to click on them and pair them.
Connecting a wireless headset to a computer with a Windows operating system is not very complicated. Such PCs do not have a built-in module, so the first thing you need to do is purchase the required device.
First of all, you need to connect the adapter so that the computer can see it. To check visibility, you need to hold down the keys on the keyboard “Windows + P”. A window will appear on the monitor desktop, where you need to enter the line “devmgmt. msc” and press the “Enter” key.
You need to go to the “Device Manager” menu. Find any word or phrase that mentions “Bluetooth”. This will make it clear that the module is connected and the computer sees it.
You need to click on the name of the module, after which a window will be displayed indicating that the device is working correctly.
Next, you need to configure the connection.
After connecting the Bluetooth module, its icon will appear in the lower right corner of the monitor. If it is not displayed, you need to click on the arrow that opens all the quick access icons.
Next, you need to click on the “blue eye”, after which a window will open indicating “Add Bluetooth device”.
You need to activate the headphones. To do this, press the power button located on the working panel of the headset body. Then, hold down the “On” button for a few seconds until the indicator lights up, indicating that the wireless connection is activated.
The computer operating system automatically finds all devices with active Bluetooth located nearby, and all their names will be displayed in a new list. After the name of the headphones appears, you need to click on them and, through the parameters, click on the word “Paired”.
The next step is to check the connection. Correct pairing does not mean that the headset will work without problems. To check, it is enough to start any music track and check whether there will be any interference in the sound. In some cases, there may be no sound at all. In such a situation, you need to make sound settings.

You need to get to the Control Panel through the Start menu.
You need to find it in the “Sound settings” menu. The operating systems currently in use, such as Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows XP, have differences in this case. The names of the settings sections may be different, but the icons are the same. Accordingly, the image with the speaker should be used as a reference point.
After opening the Sound Settings menu, go to the Playback tab.
Double-click the name of the headphones with the left mouse button, after which they should become the default device. If this does not happen, as an additional confirmation, you need to click the “Apply” button.
Just in case, you need to reboot your computer. After it is fully turned on, activate the Bluetooth module in the headphones. And start the music track again. According to most users, these steps allow you to configure the wireless headset.
The distinctive feature of a Bluetooth headset is the complete absence of wires. You can connect the headphones to your computer using a portable module. And to use the device without any interference, you need to set it up correctly.
Some wireless headset models come with a module required to connect to a computer that does not have a wireless adapter. The adapter must be connected to the PC, then the headphones must be activated. Next, you need to pair the device and the system. By clicking on the “Bluetooth” button, which is displayed in the lower right corner of the desktop, the “Add Device Wizard” opens. You must wait until the program compiles a complete list of devices available for connection. Then, you only need to select the name of the headset. When finished, the “Installation Wizard” reports that the device has been added. Next, you need to go to the “Control Panel”, select “Devices and Printers”, find the headphones by name, and right-click on them.
In the menu that opens, select the “Bluetooth Operations” section, which will launch an automatic search for utilities responsible for the normal operation of the device.
The process of connecting the wireless module depends entirely on the computer’s operating system. If Windows 7 or Vista is installed on the PC, you need to click on the Bluetooth line located in the “Control Panel”. Open the “Properties” menu, click on the “Drivers” tab, and make sure that they are the latest version and work without errors. If an update is required, you should click on the corresponding button. Then, through the “Control Panel”, you need to go to the “Network and Sharing Center” menu, select “Change adapter settings”, and enable “Bluetooth network connections”.
For users of the Windows 10 operating system, the developers have somewhat simplified the procedure for connecting the module. It is enough to find the “Settings” item through the “Start” menu and then go to the “Devices” section.
In the window that opens, select “Bluetooth” and click “Enable”.
Possible problems
Unfortunately, not all users manage to connect a wireless headset to a computer the first time. Quite often they have problems that seem impossible to solve without an IT specialist. But in fact, there are no difficulties.
“Bluetooth Module” is not displayed in Task Manager
Most likely, the problem is that the computer already has drivers for the adapter. You need to open the “Other devices” tab through the “Device Manager”. Most likely, the adapter is in the list of new connections and is displayed as an unknown device. You need to double-click on the icon of the unknown device, after which a menu will open with the line “Update drivers”.
If suddenly the Bluetooth module driver has not been updated, you should try updating the motherboard utilities. The problem of the wireless adapter being invisible will probably be solved.
I can’t connect my headphones
In this case, the problem may be in the computer itself or the wireless headset. You can try to solve the problem in several ways. First, restart the headphones. If the device still does not work, you need to restart the computer. If in this situation the headphones do not connect to the PC, you need to try to pair them with another device that supports Bluetooth. As an additional solution to the problem, you can try updating the drivers for the wireless connection module and the motherboard.
Reactivate in case of connection failures
Users encounter this problem quite often. First of all, to solve the problem, you need to reboot the computer and check the functionality of the wireless module. Perhaps the failure is in the drivers. You can try updating or reinstalling them.
No sound
If the wireless headset has successfully paired with the computer, but there is still no sound, you should check the volume level of the headphones themselves. Surely, their adjustment is located on the working panel of the headset body. You need to make sure that the sound on the computer is also set to high values. To do this, click on the speaker icon located in the lower right corner of the monitor. Then, open the “Volume Mixer” and check what level is set for the headphones. If this method does not help, you need to check the drivers again and update them.
Unfortunately, users do not always immediately understand the reason for the problems that arise when connecting a wireless headset. Often, questions about non-working headphones have the most absurd answers.
Wireless headphones may not activate due to a discharged battery. When you turn on the device, the LED located on the body should light up. If this does not happen, you need to connect the headphones to the charger and turn them on after a while.
Another reason for discharged headphones may be that they are connected via a USB cable to a non-working port on the computer.
If the user forgets to turn off the headset after use, the device goes into standby mode, but continues to drain battery life. After some time, the battery is fully discharged, and the headset is unable to turn on. There is no complicated explanation for solving the problem. In this case, you would simply try to turn the headphones on again. If you do not see the indicator lighting up, then they need to be charged.
PC headset pairing issues are almost always due to user errors in processing the controls incorrectly. In the case of disconnecting the headset, the computer needs to confirm that it’s okay to disconnect before the user physically disconnects the headset. In other words, you have to wait until the computer permits you. The wrong order of actions results in a loss of pairing and a settings failure.
An ordinary user of wireless headsets who gets the headphones assumes that Bluetooth activation is automatic. However, to enable Bluetooth, pressing the relevant buttons on the control panel for several seconds is necessary.
Wireless headsets with active sound, when moving in the house, can stop having sound because there is a distance limitation for every connection module. Furthermore, walls, furniture, and massive metal structures obstruct translation. They also hinder the powerful range of radio signals that the Bluetooth module was not designed for.
Initially, all Bluetooth devices can display faults from the manufacturer’s end. The moment this happens, you need to get in touch with the seller from whom you purchased the device and ask for a detailed repair, replacement, or whatever else the warranty on your product’s warranty card states. The problem itself is very simple to confirm. Stated in plurality of terms, each type has a specific duration within which, if the wireless connection is activated using the button, the activation process should last no longer than the time, as given in the guide provided by the manufacturer. That’s a good warning sign that Bluetooth modules or the entire device isn’t functioning properly. As always, we invite you to share with us your observations and remarks in the comments section below if that’s the case.
